Introduction of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences

Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences (KUMS)   

Founded in 1347 as the School of Nursing, Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences started servicing the people inhabited in the west of Iran upon upgrading to a Faculty of Medical Sciences in 1354. It improved extensively and undertook other initiatives such as research and innovation with the purpose of promoting the level of the university in addition to treatment and education after the glorious Islamic Revolution and becoming a University of Medical Sciences. The university currently has seven deputy offices, six faculties, seven medical and educational centers in Kermanshah, ten hospitals, fourteen health centers in Kermanshah, Islamabad, Paveh, Salasbabajani, Javanrood, Dalahoo, Ravansar, Sarpolzahab, Songor, Sahneh, Ghasr-e-Shirin, Kangavar, Gilangharb,and Harsin with over 9814 staff and 236 academic members. In accordance with the written mission and also in line with the current improvements in country’s science and technology in the sixth government with its significant measures in creating a healthy society in an environment full of health and safety, some of the measures are touched upon here.

·        Offering all specialized fields

·        Having 24 super specialists in different fields and the magnificent measures taken by them in Kermanshah including heart and cardiovascular operations, Thorax operation, pediatric surgery, pediatric urology surgery and so on

·        The performance of the Imam Reza Hospital as the main hub hospital in the west part of the country holding the top ranking in Iran

·        Services  of  Imam Ali super specialized cardiovascular center

·        Radiotherapy units, MRI, kidney stone crusher and peripheral angiography in the public sector as the sole public sector in the west of the country

·        Kidney transplantation center in  Kermanshah

·       The only PND center in the west of country for prenatal diagnosis of thalassemia

·        The  training hub of the west part of Iran in training programs for the working nurses in dialysis wards

·        The unique measures of the dialysis section with 36 working beds in the Imam Reza educational and treatment center

·        The implementation of the program specifically designed for the patients with thalassemia and assigning Kermanshah as one of the ten pilot provinces in Iran.

·        The first center for harm reduction and sexual health, and women addiction in Iran
